International Standardization

Dr. Carpenter's efforts have led to the development & publication of several internationally recognized standards.

The international standardization field is marked by the exportation of U.S. expertise in augmenting and staffing the development of international standards that benefit all, but are especially helpful to developing (non-OECD) economies or those nations that are not members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Dr. Carpenter has been instrumental in identifying and advancing U.S. expertise in this arena. His efforts have led to the development and publication of several internationally recognized standards with the American National Standards Institute, Standards Canada, and International Standards Organization. Dr. Carpenter’s efforts are highlighted by the positions he has previously or currently holds, which include:

  • Head of Delegation and Chair of the United States Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for ISO Technical Committee TC-265: Carbon dioxide capture, transportation, and geological storage.
  • Head of Delegation and Chair of the United States Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO Technical Committee TC-82: Mining.
  • Head of Delegation and Vice Chair of the United States Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to Technical Committee TC-298: Rare Earth Elements.
  • Chair of the United States National Mirror Committee (TAG) for ISO Technical Committee TC-265: Carbon dioxide capture, transportation, and geological storage.
  • Consultant to American National Standards Institute regarding the United States participation to a new ISO Technical Committee on standardization in the field of gold ores, gold concentrates, gold alloys (excluding gold jewelries), gold compounds, gold material and standardization of the development, recovery and recycling of gold.
  • International Convener for ISO Technical Committee TC-82 Mining, Task Force 1: Public reporting of exploration results, mineral resources and mineral reserves.
  • International Convener for ISO Technical Committee TC-265 Carbon dioxide capture, transportation, and geological storage, Working Group 6: Carbon Dioxide Enhanced Oil Recovery (CO2-EOR)
  • International Convener for ISO Technical Committee TC-265 Carbon dioxide capture, transportation, and geological storage, Working Group 2: Carbon Dioxide Transportation
